Crystal Cave

Finally got this done, i dont really know where i got the idea for this from. the colours really came together when i finished it. happy with this one.

Where Boys Fear to Tread

I drew this girl the other day, inspired by Silversun pickup's song "Future Foe Scenarios". its 80's style teen-angst meets punk/horror colours. im attually suprised how happy i am with it. i'll be doing more, or at least using the style again.

Also i noticed the girl looks kinda like Triana Orpheus, from the awsome Venture Bro's one of my favourite programs

Invisible Wolves

Here is a new CD Cover illustration ive work on over the week, its fairly simple in design. im pretty happy with the colours i hope they come out in print ok, theyre all quite dark so i think they will, i got a little carried away with the presentation, but i think it demonstrates the intended purpose pretty well.

Kresh reffers to the wolves of Lord Foul the despiser in Stephen Donaldson's novel series 'The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant' which i have been wading through for the past 2 weeks, theyre pretty awsome and really brutal compared to many similar books. im attually pretty happy with this, the 3 wolves look ok, and the purple edges make them look pretty maleovent. they're pretty low on detail, but i think that keeps it simple. Sticks and Stones

I've just started adding cultural updates about sweet stuff over on my freind Robert loeber's awsome magazine/blog Sticks and Stones. It's totally varied, covering films, music, art a little bit of street sports and most importantly artist ventures by people we know and enjoy. Its great really as it's a chance to add a huge range of great content that isn't suitable for this blog, which is purely for just artwork and the occasional new development from me.

I'll be doing a couple of post's a week over there, all kinds of things and people. it'll be fantastic, probably.

Wednesday 18 March 2009

These are two of my favourite images from my submission for the CTRL,ALT,SHIFT creative brief, part of YCN's 08/09 awards. each poster has a pretty unique feel to it, but theyre tied together through the strong graphic colour and composition. im pretty happy with them, theyre simple but theyre good i think they fit the what CTRL,ALT,SHIFT. will be looking for.
there are a total of ten posters, each with its own unique number and supporting information. each poster relates in some fashion to the three themes of : AIDS/HIV, womens equallity and rights, and children effected by war (particulalrly child soldiers). some of the images dont attually contain images directly relating to that at all but are designed to be eye catching and draw someone in to looking a little deeper into their meaning and information. most though, stick to the message.
you can see the whole series either at:

Behance.

I've just been invited to join the creative network Behance you can find more of my work there, including a few peice not included on my blog due to their age, as well as a few work in progress peices yet to form into a final image.

it seems like a pretty professional looking network and i hope its useful, as im really still experimenting with what works and what doesn't in terms of an 'Online' presence.

Illustrated

Finished this sketch today, i drew the women based upon a photo in the Royal Geographic Society Illustrated. i also finally got a copy of Tarsem Singh's 'The Fall' which ive wanted to see for a while now, just flicking through it, its easily one of the most visually dramatic films around. fantastic.

Future Bear.

I made this guy this week, to take a short break from drawing. he's a futurist bear for a future potentially put on hold. the stylish woven fabric of capitalism, and the acidic yellow felt of Change.

however mostly hes just a cool looking bear with an out of proportion head. im hoping i can get around to making more like him, but he was suprisingly work intensive.

Thursday 26 February 2009

This Guy.

I also drew this guy.

Hardware.

Just some quick work i drew up at the end of last week, robotic heads, theyre kind of reminisent of Chris Cunningham, really i just wanted to do some unusual detail and composition. for me it's all about the repeated lines that make up all the wires.

Nukuler.

Blogger seems upload my latest images with the colour inverted, this and my last post suffered from the same volume, it could be to do with the file sizes or something, anyway probably more of my art will come from flickr in the future.

mmm, cant display the whole image propperly...well you get the idea.

Volume.

New, is this finished yet? i dont know, its basicly finished im just not sure about the colours really, for some reason blogger changed all the colours on it as well, but thats sorted now, i linked it to my Flickr account just to be useful as well.
theres a fair ammount of other work up on Flickr as well, all of the content featured on this blog, plus a smattering of old photos artwork and a few sketches that have yet to serve a true purpose yet, or are work in progress peices, anything i put up here will go on there as well so hopefully they should work well together.
theres a whole heep of newly drawn art to upload towards the end of the week to.

New Fever Ray video, more fantastic imagery and cinematography.

Yo.

This here is yet another new design for print, theres little stripey details on the triangles that may or may not show up on web.... the whole thing reminds me of kitchen tiles.

Thursday 12 February 2009

Awsome Ju-Jitsu from the 1930's, the throat grab move is fantastic.

"You are Henry Dorsett Case..."

This is an older image predating my blog, im generally only going to post new work on here, (that being the general idea.) but sometimes i might stick a few older images up as well, when they become topical or i find a new use for an old image.

so in this case im currently reading 'Pattern Recognition' by William Gibson, i totally love it, its a great book so far, anyway think about this i decided to stick this poster up, its a tribute in sort to William Gibsons most famous novel 'Neuromancer' i really like the images, its one of my favourite bits of art work ive done in a while, all the more reason to have it up on here :)

Tuesday 10 February 2009

Langbreave's Engineering Suit

Ive had a copy of this guy knocking around for ages, I couldn't really fit him into anything, he's kind of quirky and he's got this slightly comical look about him, thats both pretty cool but sort of silly, so I thought id make an image just for him, ive tryed to give it the look of something out of some sort of science fiction technical manual, it could maybe do with a little more detail but I thought to much information would be kind of self indulgent, plus theres enough made up stuff on there as it is, the text isn't visible on the web version, i'll have a go at sorting that. also notice he has no legs, poor guy.

This

New Poster finished, what do you think? im hoping the white cloudy shapes at the top will give it a nice finish when its printed. More Soon.

Modern Classics

I mentioned these already on everyones favourite new site for blabbing Twitter.
But i felt Olly Moss's Video Game Classics series are so beautiful they deserved a mention here.
he says he's doing a series of nine to screen print, hes done 4 so far, theyre such a simple idea, its awsome.

you can go see them Here

Two Whole bottles of Wine!

Keith Floyd proving alcoholism is the route to success

...theres some nonsense about rugby in there as well but mostly its booze, sun and fish.

Physics of the Impossible

Hi, So lately ive got lots of bits in the works, but little finished. mmm plus ive built up a Huge backlog of things to start working on, so in a week i expect i'll be able to hose down this site with new arts.

Yaywoo.

The above is a patch of my new pattern, its not 'quite' perfect, but its still pretty fun, its got an octopus and a shark on it, but youve probably seen that already. yeah?
Erm anyway ive been reading this book over the week http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/display.pperl/9780385520690.html
its pretty interesting, its one of those books with an engimatic picture of the author on the back cover thats just a little bit off-putting, like he's grinning at you.

New In.

New work's here, just finished today.
my stew is burning,
(thats not a euphamism for something else, im making a stew.)

Work in Progress

Heres the pen work of a new piece ive been working on, just the ink work so far. its based on 'The Deep One' a character from a short story by Neil Gaiman in the book 'Smoke and Mirrors', the story's called 'Only the End of the World Again' which in turn is based in H.P Lovecrafts mythology (just in case you were wondering). I had two diffrent outcomes in mind when i outlined this image, the final pen work sits somewhere between both my initial ideas.

I work primarily in ink, i do a fair bit of all digital work to as it often is easier to implement but my main love in hand drawn line work and ink illustration. my big challenge at the moment is combining to two, ive got a couple of other ideas in the works at the moment. a couple of patterns, some prints that need printing, and a seriealised web comic, all in the works.

Im returning to huddersfield this week as ive been home with my parents over christmas. ive got all sorts to sort out. then London!

Fever Ray New

I was shown this today, completely incredible music video from Fever Ray, Theyre a swedish group who used to be known as The Knife. this blows my mind. The cinematography is to die for.

If I Had A Heart from Fever Ray on Vimeo.

Update: mmm it seems a little odd that the video wont display in the post, im probably doing something wrong.
